The Foundation is working to expand its role in funding research into
the treatment and causes of eating disorders. In the coming year, the
Foundation will focus on obtaining funds to assist in ongoing research
projects looking at what factors enhance a good treatment outcome, what
factors may predict better or worse outcomes and how physicians can
improve or tailor their approach depending on the findings of these
studies. We welcome assistance in this effort!
As to publishing, the Foundation devoted its energies in 2004 to creating
and filming the video, Spotting the Tiger: Recognizing Anorexia in Children.
With the help of a generous grant from the American Legion Child Welfare
Foundation, and additional support from the H.W. Irwin and D.C.H. Irwin
Foundation, the Kartini Foundation produced this instructional video
for pediatricians, school nurses and counselors. The Foundation is providing
copies of the video, in DVD format, to all pediatricians in Oregon,
Washington and Idaho, at no charge. Moreover, the video may be viewed
and downloaded on this site Click Here.
Appraising the effect that Spotting the Tiger, the Foundation will consider
whether to continue to pursue its goals through additional video publishing
projects.
